First Light is inspired by the quiet turning of early February, when winter still holds the land but the returning light begins to make itself known.
Created as part of The Seasonal Turning Collection, First Light reflects the earliest stirrings of growth, the sense of preparation before spring, and the subtle shift from dormancy toward renewal.
February 1 marks a symbolic threshold in the seasonal cycle: winter is not finished, but the light is strengthening, the earth is beginning to prepare, and possibility is starting to return.
Its botanical infusion combines nettle leaf, chickweed, birch leaf, and lemon balm, creating the lightest and most delicate profile in the collection.
Each bottle begins with botanicals grown organically here on our mountain or responsibly wildcrafted in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, then carefully harvested, dried, and prepared by our Master Herbalist.
The botanicals are slowly infused using our traditional seven-hour slow-heat process, allowing time and gentle warmth to become part of the preparation.
There are no essential oils and no added fragrance.
What remains is the natural character of the whole botanicals themselves: fresh, pale, green, and newly awakened.

This carrier blend was designed to be exceptionally light and elegant, giving First Light a soft, quick-absorbing texture rather than the richer feel of the later seasonal oils.

The Mountain Apothecary is built around a simple principle: whenever possible, our botanicals should begin where the products themselves are made.
The nettle, chickweed, birch, lemon balm, and other botanicals used throughout our ritual collections are grown organically here on our mountain or responsibly wildcrafted in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
They are carefully harvested, dried, and preserved until they are ready for infusion.
Each batch is prepared by our Master Herbalist using whole botanicals, thoughtfully selected oils, gentle heat, and time.
Because we work with real plants, natural differences in color, aroma, and appearance may occur from one harvest and batch to another.
We consider those variations part of genuine small-batch botanical work.
The Seven-Hour Infusion
Every First Light batch undergoes a seven-hour slow-heat botanical infusion.
The process is deliberately simple:
Whole botanicals.
Carefully selected oils.
Gentle heat.
Seven hours.
Time and intention.
There are faster ways to make an oil.
We deliberately choose the slower one.
How to Use
Apply a small amount to the hands or pulse points before meditation, prayer, journaling, reflection, intention setting, or seasonal ritual.
First Light may also be used to anoint personal objects, candles, written intentions, altar items, keepsakes, or other meaningful objects connected with renewal and new beginnings.
A single drop may be enough for many ritual uses.
